Oh the Places I will Go–Part 2 Behind the Books

One of the central themes of The Playboy Project, and all of the Love in the Valley books, is a love of nature. I’m fascinated by our national symbol, the bald eagle, and wanted to use a story I’d read about them as a jumping off place for a book.

St. Louis sits near the confluence of the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers, and Alton, IL, is a great place to go eagle watching, especially when the eagles come back for the winter. Visiting is one of my favorite things to do, and it’s wild to think that people can stand out on the frozen river (not me, not that brave). In the photo below, some of the things that look like posts are actually people, and that’s the lock and dam behind them. I’d show you my eagle pic, but it just looks like a blob.

Here are some places I recommend that are good all year long to get excellent views of the rivers:

Audubon Center at Riverlands

Pere Marquette State Park

Grafton Winery

(You can’t see me well, but I’m in that igloo with friends at the winery)

But don’t forget winter eagle watching or going to see the sunflowers in the summer at Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area.

PS, everyone also says to go to Fast Eddie’s Bon Air,  but I have to admit, I’ve never been there!
