My Current Relationship

Travel 2024

Or how I learned about myself through traveling

It’s nasty weather here in St. Louis, but at least the days are getting longer. I’m grounded for a little while, with my suitcases put away and my snow shovel out instead. I am not a winter person at all. Even though I don’t mind the clothes, I don’t like the cold.

The travel bug still has hold of me, and as a holdover from 2024, one of the things I was most proud of doing last year was getting out of my comfort zone and starting a long standing relationship with…the airport.

Yep, the airport was often my happy place and my virtual office as I ventured out on multiple solo adventures both in Europe, Canada and the United States. One thing I learned through all this was how to roll with the changes. I had multiple flights cancelled, others delayed (including when I was trying to get to my stepfather’s memorial), and once I was rerouted to two cities not on my agenda in order to get back home, which meant spending a night in a hotel I was not planning on staying in.

I learned exactly where my breaking point was. I learned how to travel light. I learned a great deal about who I was and what I valued, and I made a lot of new friends along the way and reconnected with family. I also learned the value of good travel insurance. Let me leave you with something else I learned while visiting friends in Vegas this past December:

All you need is love and chocolate

Chocolate makes it all better, right? Drop me a line or post on my socials about your favorite trips from last year and suggestions as to where I need to go next.
